Welcome to the first November 2011 installment of “Meet Our Staff”. Today’s pick is Tobias Rich, the Director of our San Francisco office. Tobias is a fan of the SF sports teams (Giants and the 49ers), loves to eat out at good restaurants, spend time with good friends and enjoys a good novel. In addition to that, today (November 7) is his birthday! Here’s a little more about Tobias in his own words:
1.) Why did you decide to work for Talener?
It is tough to put this into a word or a sentence but when I think about this in retrospect and I know it sounds a little cliché but the number one reason I took the job at Talener is the people. From the owner, to the individual leaders, to the operations staff these are a group of people I trust which to me is an absolute MUST!
2.) What’s the one thing you love about your job?
The thing that I love the most about my job these days is the teaching / training aspect of what I do. Once upon a time I would have said commission checks but the feeling I get when someone has success because of something I said or did to help them get to that point is priceless.
3.) How has the technology job market changed in the last couple of years in SF?
I believe that the market is constantly changing and it has changed quite a bit over the last couple of years in SF. We have seen a shift in demand for particular types of engineers (Ruby is on the rise, PHP is on the decline) in addition to a strong desire for full time both on the client and candidate side. A year ago demand for talent was much lower and good people were easier to find, these days any good candidate has at least 4 or 5 other competing opportunities who are throwing anything they can at the person to get them on board.
4.) Favorite quote:
“You’re not a robot are you” – RM in my office to a candidate we were meeting with
“No, I’m not a robot but I would like to be” – Candidate
