History of IT Recruiting

June 7th, 2012

Having worked in the Information Technology Industry since 1996, I thought that I would share the Industry changes, the Problems that companies have been trying to solve and the Real Issues in staffing that Candidates and Companies face.

History of Recruiting

1996- Posted ads in Newspapers, Resumes faxed to office, NY Times, Boston Globe, LA Chronicle (Market starting to Boom)

1998- Online Job Boards, Monster, Dice, Craig’s List, CareerBuilder, Hot Jobs (Still Booming)

2000- Company Intranets, Career sites, Referal Bonus (Boom Ending)

2002- Internal Recruiting, Applicant Tracking Systems, Vendor MGMT Solutions, SOX Compliance (Depths of Despair)

2004- Job Aggregators- indeed, Flip Dog, Simply Hired (Signs of Recovery)

2006- LinkedIn, The Ladders, Niche Job Boards (Recovery)

2008- Social Media- Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, LI (Sliding Back)

2010- Passive Candidate, Video Resumes & Video Jobs (Bottom)

2012- Gen Y Recruiting, College Recruiting (Back Booming)

Problems that companies are trying to solve:

 1)     Cost of Job Posting

2)     Cost per hire

3)     Place to find candidates- Resume Websites

4)     Targeted places to post jobs- Niche Job Boards

5)     Finding passive candidates- Making a non-active candidate, active

6)     Interviewing tactics- Video, Photos, Descriptions

7)     College Market Recruiting

Real Issues that the Candidates and Managers face:

1)     Choices, both Candidates and Managers want them

2)     Active, both want Jobs and Candidates that are REAL

3)     Within Price

4)     Within Location

5)     Jobs and Candidates that have been filtered and recommended from a trusted entity

6)     Speed, get through this process as quickly as possible, Job Search and Candidate Selection is not FUN

Only Solution that really works:

1)     Let us do our jobs

–          Trust me (The amount of people we’ve placed that the MGRs didn’t want to see and same on the Candidate side)

–          Come in here!

Enjoy the service and the result.
